Activity 1: Examining inside the computer’s system unit

In the following exercise you will identify the internal components of a PC by removing the case and looking inside it. You will then re-assemble the case. Print these instructions to:

  1. Remove the case of the system unit.
  2. Identify internal components inside the system unit.
  3. Re-assemble the case of the system unit.

Activity 2: Disassembling and reassembling a PC

This activity involves disconnecting internal peripherals from the motherboard, as well as removing the CPU and memory module. The PC is then re-assembled. Specifically you will:

  1. Disassemble the PC
  2. Reassemble the PC
  3. Install a power supply
  4. Install a new motherboard
  5. Install storage media
  6. Install a range of controller cards (into bus slots).

Firstly, organise your tools and work area. Look at this list of what you’ll need.
