a clean, tidy and well-lit working space or bench
a toolkit comprising screwdrivers (flat or Phillips) and maybe some nose pliers
an anti-static wrist strap to avoid static discharges on your components — this is particularly important in dry weather. The problem is worsened if you are working in an area which has certain types of synthetic carpets.
a small torch to look inside dark corners
a small jar or plastic container to store screws and small parts
sticky notes to label components
a large anti-static bag or soft packing foam sheet
